WIP #3: What Really Happened from Wedding Dress Blue

Well, it turns out that….

  1. I didn’t really make 324 blocks, I made 274.
  2. That is a dumb number of blocks because it doesn’t make a logical number of rows.
  3. I did it because I was running out of background fabric. And, I don’t know for sure what “white” it was and couldn’t match it. (NOTE TO SELF–mark the selvedge of “white” fabrics with color name and manufacturer.)

SO…

  1. I made 14 more 4″ blocks.
  2. The layout is now 8×9 4-patch (sets of four/8″) blocks
  3. The top finishes at 64″ x 72″.
  4. Total ...

Make That THREE WIPs from Wedding Dress Blue

When I said that I had two WIPs (Works in Progress), I had sort of pushed one out of my mind: The Jewel Box Quilt.

I started this project in March of 2022, making 4″ blocks based on 1-1/2″ squares. All solids with a single white background fabric. By June of 2023 I had 324.

And that is where I got stuck. The thought of laying out 324 blocks…

But, Monday I had a brainstorm! I could sew them into 4-patches, changing 324 blocks into 81 blocks. That doesn’t seem nearly so daunting. Now, I am back in ...

324 Of 324 from Wedding Dress Blue

If my records are correct, I started these blocks in March 2022.

They add up surprisingly fast. I have met my minimum goal of a 72-inch square quilt: 324 4″ blocks.
As soon as it is assembled, that is…

All Blocks Complete from Wedding Dress Blue

I warned Husband that this was going to be a high sewing weekend. It was time to get those blocks finished!

He didn’t complain and even stepped up and did extra around the house. (You have to love a man who mops!)

And I finished the blocks. All 64 are complete. YAY!

A Trip Around The World from Wedding Dress Blue

For some time now I have contemplated making a Trip Around the World (scrappy, of course) out of solids.  There have been some beautiful ones out there as inspiration and today (Friday) was the day.

20200724_104645.jpg

I hauled out the solids bin and got the little pieces.  Ta-dah!  The first block.

You will notice that it is not strip pieced.  There are some scraps that will only give a single square, and I want to be able to use those also.  It might take a bit longer on the front end, but the results should be worth it.

It is based ...

Pebble Quilt Finished (Wedding Quilt #4) from Wedding Dress Blue

It just feels like pebbles.  Well, really big pebbles.  And I have never seen blue and green pebbles…Anyway, I call it Pebbles because that is its name.

And it is finished. Mainly because it was rainy here this morning and I was able to justify a binding blitz!

I LOVE the back.  It was such a lucky find.

And the quilting went well.  Just a pantograph called Zest.

It will be sent to the bride and groom soon.

DSC01936

No special pattern here, just 4-/2″ squares and a four patch of 2-1/2″ squares.  But I love the look ...

Quick (Wedding #4) Quilt from Wedding Dress Blue

Well, this is wedding quilt #4 for the year.  And it is only June.

DSC01911

The daughter of a friend of Husband is getting married in July and he asked me to make a quilt.  As he supports (endures) my quilting every day, I try very hard to accommodate on the rare occasions he asks me to make something specific.

The couple have a modern/earthy look to their apartment.  Hmmm….

I hope to quilt it before the end of the month and have a finish to share then.
